ACCORDI-O-RAMA IV: THE ANNUAL SQUEEZEBOX SPECTACULAR RETURNS TO TOWN HALL, SUNDAY, JANUARY 23 AT 2 PM
Bring the whole family and celebrate accordion music in all its glory at Town Hall’s annual squeezebox spectacular, Accordi-O-Rama. The fourth installment of this popular extravaganza features a line-up of five scintillating acts, four brand new to the series: Jason Webley, local cult favorite singer, back-street troubadour, and squeezeboxer; California’s Shamalamacord, the duo of Mike Penny and Aaron “Duckmandu” Seeman playing the extraordinary combination of accordion and the banjo-like Japanese shamisen; accordion master and singer Richard Allen and The Louisiana Experience with rollicking Zydeco music; and Tex-Mex melodies from the Juan Barco Conjunto with Andy Gonzalez. Joining them are the surprise hit of the first Accordi-O-Rama in 2008, Zhong-Xi Wu and Karen Wong, both masters of the multi-piped sheng, the ancient Chinese ancestor of the accordion. Accordi-O-Rama IV is dedicated to the memory of the late Roberto Maestas, the founder and long-time director of El Centro de la Raza who loved the accordion, and danced to its music at Town Hall.
Advance tickets are $13/$10 Town Hall members, seniors and students at www.brownpapertickets.com or 800/838-3006. $15/$12 at the door.
